andy + shinah | mammoth lakes, ca.
I met Andy many years ago, as he is the brother of one of my dearest friends from college. I've remained quite connected with his whole family and thus, have been alongside for many of their major life events. Andy works in theater here in Minneapolis and met his now fiancé, Shinah, while acting at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater during the production of Grease this past year. They just so happened to be counterparts in the show, acting as Doody and Frenchy, and what do you know, they fell in love off stage, too.
In the late summer, Andy had reached out to me asking if I would photograph the proposal (I obviously said yes). He decided to propose on stage, given that that is where they met and fallen for one another. It was thrilling and spectacular. Shinah hadn't a clue, the whole cast and audience was able to witness it, and I had the opportunity to offer them a tangible memory of the moment.
Fast forward a few months, and they've now ask that I photograph their wedding next year! After the production of Grease finished, Andy and Shinah headed out west for a vacation. They had asked if I would do their engagement photos with them in California. With zero hesitation, I booked a flight and met them in Mammoth Lakes. We spent a day shooting throughout the town and in a few nearby locations, as well. We experienced some pretty gnarly weather at higher elevations, but had an incredible time. These two are magnetic with one another and it's easy to see fairly quickly that they're so right for each other. It's rare that I get to spend so much time with a couple, but when I do, I get the unique opportunity of getting a more intimate look at their partnership and individual personalities. This fuels the art I'm able to make and I think the photos feel all the more personal. These two bring out the best in each other and that's the loveliest of gifts.
